What is the uOttawa Music Pedagory Professional Development Program?

The uOttawa Music Pedagogy Professional Development Program offers training in music education designed to deepen the knowledge of various educational methods, improve teaching skills and enrich the teaching practice.

The four microprograms in music pedagogy are offered in collaboration with the University of Ottawa School of Music, the Piano Pedagogy Research Laboratory and public community organizations and institutions. A professional certification will be issued by the University of Ottawa upon completion of the necessary courses within each microprogram.

The four microprograms include:

Most music majors receive little training in music education during their conservatory or university degree program. Many become music teachers without a proper preparation. Also, many established music teachers  are interested in renewing their training and enriching their knowledge and skills.  A certificate in music pedagogy will allow these professional musicians to enhance their teaching methodology and acquire the necessary polished teaching skills.

Music education is a fast-growing interdisciplinary field, and this Professional Development curriculum will allow both university students and music teachers to prepare for the 21st-century job market.
