Course Curriculum

The content of the English for Diplomacy course will be determined by your level and requirements.  However, core subject areas for each course will include:

  • Spoken English: tone, register and style
  • Public speaking
  • Presentation skills
  • Formal writing skills: style, accuracy and structure
  • Email etiquette
  • Media & Press releases
  • Briefing notes & summaries


Details

The English for Diplomacy course is offered over 10 weeks (4.5 hours per week) for a total of 45 hours. Tailored learning materials as well as online learning resources will be used throughout the delivery of the course, with recommendations on self-study material and extra reading made at the beginning and throughout the duration of the course. A modular course format is adopted for the delivery of this course

Instructors

Our course Instructors have ample professional diplomatic English training experience and expertise along with relevant academic and linguistic qualifications and experience.  They also possess considerable exposure and expertise in the professional world. Course Instructors will be assigned according to your objectives and areas of focus following the results of your diagnostic consultancy.

Description & Outcomes

The course addresses the needs of diplomats to perform their daily work at the highest level. Activities will include participating in meetings and debates, chairing meetings, making presentations, persuading people with a point of view, writing emails, and completing reports and media releases, etc.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively and confidently in English
  • Prepare and deliver speeches and presentations on a wide range  of topics
  • Conduct negotiations
  • Chair and participate in meetings and conferences
  • Discuss current and foreign affairs with other diplomats
  • Write clear and concise emails, letters and reports
  • Make and receive telephone calls
  • Use English with increased confidence
  • Develop language skills essential to career progression
